A house is built with walls and a roof, but a home is created with love, intention, and the little touches that reflect the heart of the family living inside. As we’ve been building our house, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what truly makes a house a home. It’s not just the paint colors or furniture—it’s the memories made, the prayers whispered, and the everyday acts of love that fill the space.
Roots of Comfort and Connection
Home begins with a feeling—a sense of comfort, safety, and connection. For us, it’s sitting around the table as a family, sharing a meal and stories from our day. It’s Samson playing with his favorite toys on the living room floor while laughter echoes through the walls. It’s lighting a beeswax candle in the evening and taking a moment to pray as a family, grounding ourselves in faith.
These small, daily rituals anchor us. They remind us that a home isn’t about perfection; it’s about presence. The scratches on the floor, the mismatched chairs, or the dishes left in the sink are all part of the story of a lived-in, well-loved space.
Personal Touches and Meaningful Details
When we began designing our farmhouse, we knew we wanted it to be a place where our family could grow and thrive. Before the sheetrock went up, we took a special moment to write scripture on the walls, embedding God’s word into the very foundation of our home. It’s these little, meaningful gestures that make a house feel alive with purpose and spirit.
I’ve also found joy in incorporating personal touches—treasures passed down, thrifted decor, and a little space where I can create remedies for our family. Each piece tells a story, connects us to our roots, and reminds us of the people and moments that matter most.
Memories in the Making
A home comes to life in the moments that happen within its walls. It’s the smell of freshly baked chamomile sweet rolls in the oven, the sound of Samson’s giggles as he plays, and the quiet evenings spent curled up together on the couch.
It’s not about having the latest trends or the fanciest things. It’s about creating spaces where life can happen—where messes are made, where love is shown, and where grace is extended daily.
A Reflection of God’s Grace
At its core, our home is a reflection of God’s grace and provision. After losing our old house, this new space represents a fresh start, a tangible reminder of His faithfulness. Each step of this journey has been a testament to His guidance, from the rough draft to the finishing touches.
As we continue to build our life within these walls, my prayer is that our home will always be a place of warmth, welcome, and worship. A home where others feel the love of Christ, where hospitality flows freely, and where joy is found in the little things.
