Christmas Day has come and gone, leaving behind a beautiful trail of memories—twinkling lights, joyful laughter, and the warmth of family gatherings. The day after Christmas is a unique time, quieter than the festive hustle and bustling preparation, but no less meaningful. It’s a day of reflection, a chance to pause and reset before the calendar flips to a new year.

Reflecting on the Season
Today, I let myself truly soak in the moments we’ve shared. I replay the smiles and giggles of Samson tearing through wrapping paper and the warmth of Tysin’s hand in mine as we prayed over our family meal. These are the moments that remind me why we celebrate, grounding me in the joy and love that come with the gift of Christ’s birth.

As the house settles into a peaceful rhythm, I spend some quiet time with my Bible, revisiting scriptures that anchor me in gratitude. This season always fills me with wonder—how a single event, so long ago, continues to ripple through our lives with such significance. Today is for reflecting on that miracle and letting it guide my heart.

Preparing for What’s Ahead
While Christmas is a time to cherish the present, the day after feels like a bridge to the future. This is when I start preparing for the transition back into daily life.

  • Meal planning. One of my first steps is sketching out simple, nourishing meals for when I return to work. The balance of holiday indulgence and everyday sustenance feels right, and having a plan makes the return to routine feel less overwhelming.
  • Finding my “word” for the year. Every year, I choose a single word to guide me—a word that reflects where I’ve been and where I want to go. It’s not always easy to find the perfect one; sometimes it comes in a whisper, other times like a spark. I’m still listening for this year’s word, trusting that it will come in God’s timing.

Clearing Out to Make Room
There’s something about the day after Christmas that inspires a fresh start. Part of this involves clearing space—both physically and mentally.

  • Boxing up the old. I take time to sort through items we no longer need, gathering toys Samson has outgrown and clothes we haven’t reached for in months. Boxing these up to donate feels like an act of gratitude, making room for the blessings we’ve received this Christmas.
  • Tidying with purpose. This is more than just cleaning; it’s about creating a home that feels peaceful and prepared for what’s next. It’s a reminder that every item we keep should serve us, either in function or in joy.

A Heart Open to Renewal
This day also holds a special place as a time of renewal. It’s not quite the New Year yet, but the thought of starting fresh is already stirring. I think about the areas of my life where I want to grow and the habits I want to nurture. I consider how I can better serve my family, my community, and ultimately, God.

As I reflect, I lean on prayer to guide my thoughts and intentions. What does God want for me this year? What steps can I take to walk closer to Him? These questions guide me as I write down small goals that feel meaningful and aligned with my values.

Resting in Grace
While there’s plenty to do today, I also remind myself that it’s okay to rest. Rest is productive, too. Whether it’s a quiet moment by the fire, a walk outside to breathe in the crisp winter air, or a cup of tea shared with my family, these pauses are what sustain me.

The day after Christmas is a day of reflection, preparation, and quiet renewal. It’s a time to cherish the memories we’ve made, clear space for what’s to come, and anchor our hearts in the hope of Christ’s love.

How do you spend this special in-between day? Do you dive into cleaning and planning, or do you let the stillness guide your steps? I’d love to hear how you make the most of this time of rest and renewal.

Wishing you a peaceful and purposeful day, filled with God’s grace.
